A farmers’ market is a market, usually held outdoors in public spaces, where farmers and other food vendors can sell their products to the public. Farmers’ markets were a traditional way of selling agricultural and hand-crafted products, but are currently gaining in popularity because of the range of potential benefits they can offer, such as: sales of local produce at the peak of its flavor, reduction in food travel miles, ability to communicate directly with those who raise or produce the food being sold, access to meats raised humanely on pasture, eggs and poultry from free-range fowl, heirloom produce, handmade farmstead cheeses, and in some states, raw milk dairy products.
