A farmers’ market is a market, usually held outdoors in public spaces, where farmers and other food vendors can sell their products to the public. Farmers’ markets were a traditional way of selling agricultural and hand-crafted products, but are currently gaining in popularity because of the range of potential benefits they can offer, such as:

Sale of local produce at the peak of its flavor
Reduction in food travel miles
Ability to communicate directly with those raising/producing the food
Access to meat raised humanely on pasture
Eggs and poultry from free-range fowl
Heirloom produce
Handmade farmstead cheeses
In some states, raw milk dairy products
